Access to affordable dental care just got easier for millions of Canadians. The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal initiative aimed at helping eligible residents receive essential dental treatments without financial stress. But what does it cover, and who can apply?
What Is the CDCP?
The CDCP is a government-funded program designed to reduce barriers to oral healthcare, especially for lower-income households, seniors, and uninsured individuals. It’s being rolled out in stages between 2024 and 2025, and includes coverage for many essential dental services like cleanings, exams, fillings, and dentures.
The goal is simple: to improve access to basic dental care across Canada and help people maintain healthier smiles without putting off treatment due to cost.
Who Qualifies for the CDCP?
You may be eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan if:
You’re a Canadian resident
You don’t have access to private dental insurance
Your household income is under $90,000 per year
You filed your taxes last year
The amount of coverage depends on your income level. Those with lower incomes may receive full coverage, while others may pay a small co-pay. Once you’re approved, you’ll get a letter explaining your benefits and how to use them.
What Does the CDCP Cover?
The CDCP covers a wide range of services, including:
Professional cleanings and preventive care
Extractions and other oral surgeries
Dentures and relines
It’s important to note that cosmetic procedures like veneers and teeth whitening are not included.
How We Support CDCP Patients in Vancouver
At our North and West Vancouver dental clinics, we proudly welcome patients who are approved under the CDCP. Whether you’re a senior on a fixed income or a young adult without private coverage, our experienced team is here to help you get the care you need.
From the moment you book, we’ll walk you through how your coverage works, what to expect at your visit, and help coordinate your treatment to match your CDCP benefits.
We understand that navigating a new program can be confusing — that’s why we’re committed to making it as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Use Your Dental Benefits Before the Year Ends
If you’ve been delaying care, now is the time to act. Many dental benefits reset at the end of the calendar year, and with CDCP rolling out, early applicants may have access to more flexible scheduling. Don’t wait until it’s too late to use the care you’re entitled to.
